The Heart of Yoga Foundation provides direct support to teachers in conflict zones. We provide online resources for building peace through yoga. We train teachers and raise awareness of how we can use yoga off the mat to create greater human understanding.

Sister Studio Program
The Peace Project Sister Studio Program matches yoga studios from developed and stable communities with emerging yoga studios and practice groups in active conflict zones and other troubled regions. The Peace Project helps the participants to build and maintain active relationships that become sources of healing, empowerment, and enlightenment.

Peace Practice Events
We present Peace Practice Events to increase awareness, get people involved, and raise funds. Throughout the year, with the support of local studios, we sponsor events to raise awareness of non-violence.

Teacher Training Programs
We hold Teacher Trainings in the US and abroad. The curriculum is a combination of yoga and non-violence/conflict resolution skills. Heart of Yoga Teacher Trainings combine yoga training in the tradition of Krishnamacharya, with non-violent communication skills, cross cultural dialogue and support on building a yoga community and developing a student base. As needed, Heart of Yoga may also provide grants for equipment and materials to get started.
These courses are designed to seed new yoga communities in parts of the world where they are needed most. Teacher trainings are held in a neutral location in the United States, with the support of communities like the Esalen Institute on the West Coast and Kripalu on the East Coast, and may also be held in regionally accessible locations- cost and travel permits are vital.
Trainings are residential programs and are two to three weeks long. Regular follow-up is part of the program. Teacher training participants agree to support and develop peace in their native lands, and to get involved in Heart of Yoga. Most students come on full scholarship.
At the conclusion of the program, participants receive a Heart of Yoga Level 1 Certification.
For details about the locations and dates of specific teacher training programs, see the Calendar.
